Ostriches are birds that appear in The Lion Guard universe. They live in the Pride Lands.

Appearance

In the Real World

While male ostriches sport black and white plumage, females are brown.

In The Lion Guard

All ostriches in The Lion Guard have black feathers, regardless of their sex and age. They have large orange beaks with rosy patches on either side and a small crest of white feathers on their heads, as well as long, pale pink necks and dark gray-pink legs, both of which may or may not bear speckles. Similar to ostriches in real life, the feathers around their necks are white, but these feathers are much thicker and more pronounced in the show.

Information

In the Real World

Ostriches are capable of running up to speeds of 70km/h.

In The Lion Guard

In The Lion Guard, it is confirmed that ostriches do not actually stick their heads into the ground.

Kambuni runs from Janja

During Hero Inside, an ostrich appears resting. Later on, Kambuni pretends to be Fuli the cheetah with her friends. She remarks that their game isn't very fun, so they decide to chase some hyraxes. Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu soon attack, and Kambuni flees. One of her friends, Mtoto, does not escape, and she and her friends go and tell Beshte. At the end of the episode, Kambuni listens to Mtoto's story of being saved. She and her friends then ask Kion for their Marks of the Lion Guard.

The Trail to Udugu

Mbuni and her flock become alarmed when a mudslide threatens to push their eggs off the edge of a cliff. When King Simba and the Lion Guard save them, they are honored and relieved. Later, the eggs are in danger again when Swala's Herd stampede towards them. Fuli and Ono are able to sort out the problem, and the ostriches are calmed.
