There are two pathways for the reader to choose from.
Timon and Pumbaa are gathering grubs in the jungle near the Outlands, when Janja, Cheezi and Chungu approach and kidnap them. The Lion Guard arrive, and Bunga wonders where his uncles have gone. Kion spots hyena tracks, and Bunga wishes to follow their tracks immediately. Ono believes that they are probably already too far ahead, and that he knows a shortcut back to their den. Kion is left to make the decision on which path they take.
The Lion Guard find the hyenas resting, and notice Timon and Pumbaa locked in a cage of thorns. They locate some termites and use them to eat the cage open. Now free, Timon and Pumbaa make their escape with the Lion Guard. When the hyenas awake, they find the termites chewing away at everything around them, with one biting Janja's nose. Pumbaa comments that termites are very useful insects as they retreat back to the Pride Lands.
They track the hyenas back to their den, where Timon and Pumbaa are trapped on a rock surrounded by lava. Ono suggests diverting the lava, and Beshte does so by using a rock. With the lava diverted, the Guard take Timon and Pumbaa home. When the hyenas arrive, they realise that the lava has been redirected straight to their den.
