In the Real World
Impalas have sleek brown coats broken by an area of darker brown fur on their back. They also have stripes on their rumps like the letter M. Their underbellies and the undersides of their tails are white in color. Male impalas have a pair of long, slender horns.
In The Lion Guard
Impalas in The Lion Guard look similar to real-life impalas.
Impalas are antelopes native to Africa. They are foragers that feed mainly off of grasses and foliage, and are adaptable enough to not need to migrate long distances, unlike other antelope. Male impalas are larger than females, who also lack the horns that are present on males. They can run up to 80km/h in a zig zag, and jump up to 3 meters high.
During one of Mzingo's Committee's meetings in the Outlands, Mzingo announces that their parliament has decided that the question as to whether impala or reedbuck tastes better requires more deliberation.Janja, Cheezi, and Chungu attempt to hunt a herd of impalas, chasing after them as they flee. The Lion Guard arrives and stops the hyenas, allowing the impalas to graze in peace. However, they are soon disrupted again by the sound of Tamaa impersonating Kion's voice, announcing that the hyenas are back in the Pride Lands and that they need to run to the Outlands. Though at first they ignore him, Thurston obeys, panicking loudly, which causes the impala herd to flee into the Outlands with the hyenas pursuing them. They stampede through a canyon until they reach a dead end, where they begin to settle down.
The hyenas begin to sneak up on them, but are once again foiled by the Lion Guard. The Guard then leads the impalas back to safety in the Pride Lands.
